Endless Illusions

Synopsis: Endless Illusions is basically a compilation of burns, bombs, graffiti, tags, pieces, or art (whatever name you have for it) on trains.  It shows you how train writers paint their masterpieces and includes a few interviews near the end of the movie.

Review: I really have nothing else to say for the synopsis of the movie.  It really is a gallery of all the artwork you might see on trains if you traveled there (where’s there?  I don’t know).  All of the clips have music playing most of which are good to listen to as you watch them spray away.  The only dialogue found in this movie are interviews during the last 10% of the movie.  No joke!  The 90% of this movie is all compiled clips of artwork.  Imagine 20 people making their own YouTube graffiti compilation lasting around 5 minutes each.  Then imagine someone compiling these compilations together.  That’s exactly how this movie is.  I was hoping for a storyline to come out of it talking about the history of train writing, the legends and pioneers of this art form, the drama between artists or crews or something.  I was hoping it would be more like Scratch and actually learning something about it in the process.  This felt like I was watching the old breakdancing videos back in my bboying days.  Yes, I breaked.  Who didn’t?  haha.  In defense of the director, I’m sure he’s a graffiti lover who didn’t make this movie for the mainstream.  This movie is made by graffiti artists for graffiti artists.  Too bad I’m not a graffiti artist because this was one illusion I was hoping to end soon. Corny, I know, but true.

  1. Hi!

I can give you a tip if you are looking for a really good, more “mainstream”, graffiti documentary. Its called Infamy and its done by Doug Pray, who also did Scratch and other nice docu movies. Infamy shows six writers from various citys in U.S. and the interviews goes from how they start writing to where they are now.
Doug Pray is a real pro and its very nice done, I like it alot!

  2. Nice! Thanks, Ola. I’ll definitely try to check it out and review it. After doing a quick search on IMDB, I noticed he directed and wrote for Surfwise, another good documentary. I’ll look forward to Infamy.

  3. Actualy the whole movie, Infamy, can be found at Google Video, if you can stand to watch it in low quality and want to watch it right now…but I think its worth to be watched in high quality :)

I also like Doug Prays documentary about “truckers” in the u.s., Big Rig. :)
