CAS

CAS

Since I’ve been living on my own I don’t have cable to watch TV nor do I have a car to listen to the radio.  I’m pretty much away from Winnipeg’s mainstream content so I can’t engage in conversations relating to what’s killed on the radio these days or about funny commercials they’ve seen recently.  With the wonderful world of the Internet I can watch and listen to basically anything I want at anytime.  I’ve always been listening to one source to get my audio fix.  Ever since my brother introduced me to Cerritos All Stars Live Mixshow I can’t get enough.

Cerritos All Stars Live Mixshow (CAS) is an online radio station created by turntable DJs from Cerritos, California.  Their sets range from R&B, oldschool, reggae, club music to mashups.  Every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays have got their live sessions with different DJs and replay their older sets after hours to keep you listening.  Having playlists going all the way back to 2003, they’ve been doing this for a while and have even expanded their shows to different cities and countries!  Some shows can last you 30 minutes while most will keep you bobbing your head for more than 2 hours.

Even though I’ve got more than 30GBs of music on my iPod most of the tracks I’ve played this year are all from Cerritos baby!  Using an application called Screamer Radio, I’m able to record their shows and listen to them at home, bus, bike, work or wherever.  I can’t stress enough that 90% of the music I listen to is from CAS.  After listening to great sets mixing good songs back to back how can I go back to listening to the radio or single tracks?  It’s like finding that one live band who’ll mix a few great songs together in one super fantastic set.  Don’t get me wrong.  I still listen to full albums to get the feel of the entire album but I’ll always go back to CAS.  I’ve tried other online radio stations and, again, I eventually return to CAS.  It is an online radio station and after playing so many sets throughout the year sometimes the mixes share the same tracks which get a little repetitive.  After listening to CAS for a while, you’ll find some moments in their sets where you’re just groovin’ and movin’ and it’ll make you want to dance like no one’s lookin’.  This is THE online radio station to check out after you’ve killed your favorite DJ mixes (mine would be from J Period and DJ Neil Armstrong).  Tune in.  Now!

River City Dragon Boat Festival

River City Dragon Boat Festival

I’ve always known Winnipeg being infested with summer festivals.  From Jazz Fest to Folk Fest to Fringe Fest to River City Dragon Boat Fest.  That’s right!  This weekend is the 6th Annual River City Dragon Boat Festival starting tonight at 5pm until 5pm on Sunday evening.  I am participating for the first time this year with a friend, Red’s team: Team Humility!    There’ll be beer gardens being emptied, bands playing, people with soaked clothes, loud shouting, all under a beautiful sunny weekend.  What’s not to enjoy?  So come out, check it out and support our team!  The event is held at The Manitoba Waterski Park, 365 Murdock Road.  See you there!

Who's going to be the winner!?

Who's going to be the winner!?

Brief challenge overview: A series of 5 day workweek challenges will start today with a different challenge each week.  All participants must follow the honour rule and log down their daily activities to reach a certain goal and will be featured on this site.  Although the challenges will change every week there are a few rules everyone must abide by.  No soda and no fast food!  The loser(s), if any, will have to take a FAIL! picture of themselves.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about head on over to Fail! Blog, a funny site that could take a few minutes away from your work.

This week’s challenge is inspired by my brother’s workout challenge he had with his friends.  After several chats, a few friends online also wanted to try some challenges.  So, this week’s challenge is the 10 Hour Challenge.  To workout (lift weights, do cardio or just play some sports) for 10 hours in 5 days.  You can break it down to however many hours you want per day but I think Dennis and I are going to try to keep up with working out 2 hours a day on top of our busy workweek days.  Here we go!

Thursday edits are up. Get updated with the results.
