I received my Canon EF 35mm f/2 lens yesterday and was playing with it throughout the night. While it isn’t a very interesting shot, I was blown away by its low aperture. Coming from a Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM and a Canon EF 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 USM, you can understand my revelation. I’m not too sure about the lens’ sharpness and contrast yet so let’s see how long it’ll stay on my camera for.

Is that covered under warranty?
Any comedian will tell you that timing is everything. The same rule applies to buying electronics. You can get lucky buying a product at a cheaper price because it was replaced by a newer model. You can also be unlucky by buying a product at regular price only to see that in the following weeks to be on sale as it gets replaced by a newer model. Either way, you’ll be losing out just by buying most form of electronics since they’ll always get replaced by a newer model but we all know that newer might not necessarily be better.
Yesterday on Canon’s Chinese website they listed a Canon 50D model. Some viewers were lost in translation with Google’s translating service. They believed this new camera would come equipped with an image stabilizer in the body making IS enabled on all lenses similar to Sony’s A200 – A350 models. Other online posters are telling us that the translation means image stabilization in the lenses. If this is true then the 50D upgrades the APS-C sensor to 15MP, a brighter 3″ LCD screen, a Digic IV processor instead of the Digic III, and higher iso levels (6400,12800).
The release of the 50D will probably make the 40D a good catch on Boxing Day this year. I personally don’t find this information that exciting as I’m only looking to upgrade my body to a full frame dslr. So when’s the 5D MKII coming out? Better yet, when is Canon going to come out with a $1000 full frame digital slr? Probably not anytime soon.

Sales, clearance, deals, hookups. If you’re like most people with a sense of Scrooge in them, you’re out looking for them to save every penny you have (only to spend it on something useless like McDonald’s Angus Burger combo with supersized fries only and a fruitopia drink!). What’s the point of buying something regular price when you know its going to depreciate…HARD! If you’ve got that extra sense of Scrooge-ness, you’ll know that you can save an extra penny by buying used. “Buy used?!” you say? Yes, I says.
Face plants have been around since evolution has allowed creatures to develop faces. It’s a wide spread problem that surpasses age, workplace, culture and even species. There are numerous ways in which one can be a victim of face plants. It can occur from foolish action on a night out on the town, a sports event, or even from some forces of an unforeseen nature. In any case, here is my recent encounter with this quiet epidemic.
I don’t have a cable at home. Why would I need it? I’ve got Surf the Channel for TV, torrents for HDTV, Scene Releases for movies and Cerritos Allstars for audio. I’ve got it all under control…until the Olympics started 5 days ago. I was sitting at home one day thinking, “Gee. I could really watch the Olympics right now.” Instead of just leaving it as a brief thought fading away in the endless dust thoughts that pass us by like oh so many other average joe’s do, I googled watch beijing live and easily found CBC’s Olympics site (phew! That’s a long sentence. You were suppose to read it really quickly. Go back and read it faster! haha). CBC apparently invested quite a bit of cash to have streaming online videos. Why not take advantage of it? What’s even better is that they come in a HD aspect ratio perfect for my HDTV. Now all we need is a freakin’ gold medal! C’MON CANADA, eh!
